I Be Black Girl (IBBG), Nebraska’s first and only Reproductive Justice organization, has launched a new volunteer initiative, Beloved Volunteers. This program invites individuals and groups within the Omaha community to play a pivotal role in advancing the organization’s mission through various impactful opportunities.
Beloved Volunteers offers two key areas where community involvement can make a significant difference in the work I Be Black Girl does:
Events: Volunteers will provide essential support and assistance during IBBG-led and community events. Whether it is assisting with event logistics, engaging with attendees, or managing on-the-ground activities, volunteer contribution will help ensure the success of events designed to uplift and empower Black women, femmes and girls.
Advocacy: Volunteers in this area will assist with critical advocacy efforts, which can include phone banking, door knocking, and participating in advocacy at the State Capitol. These volunteer efforts will help amplify and support the voices of Black women, femmes and girls in crucial policy discussions and community initiatives.
“Our supporters have voiced that they want more ways to engage with the work of I Be Black Girl,” said Nezzie Hardges, IBBG’s Development Coordinator. “So, it only felt right to launch Beloved Volunteers, inviting the community to strengthen their commitment and dedication to our mission in ensuring Back women, femmes, and girls live wholly.”
To participate, volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Those under 18 will need signed consent from a parent or guardian. All volunteers are required to complete an application process and adhere to the organization’s screening procedures to ensure a safe and effective volunteer experience.
IBBG also offers opportunities for larger groups or corporate/organization volunteers. Interested parties are encouraged to contact Nezzie Hardges, the Development Coordinator, at volunteer@ibeblackgirl.org to explore these collaborative opportunities.
“It takes a village to make radical change, and there is a space for everyone to get involved,” Hardges said. “The Beloved Volunteers Community is not just a place for individuals but also organizations looking to connect their employees to something meaningful in the community. Come join us and get inspired!”
